Lawrence County Busted Mugshots: What Gets Recorded
Arrests in Lawrence County can start with a local officer, a sheriff's deputy, or Illinois State Police. From there, the county takes over. Sheriff Trent Masterson's department runs booking and custody, and two online stops cover most of it: the county Sheriff & Jail information page and the sheriff's current-inmates roster. That roster shows who is in custody right now. It is not a full arrest log, and it says nothing about how a case ended.
What does a booking record hold? Typically a name, the intake time, charge entries, bond, the arresting department, and a photograph. The mugshot becomes public when one is available. Still, the jail entry is only the front end of a case. To see what happened later, the Circuit Clerk's case record is the authoritative place to look.
Note: The roster count and city figures are dated observations, not annual arrest totals or proof of current custody.
Lawrence County Booking Record Fields
The public roster gives a field-by-field look at a Lawrence County booking card. What you see is only what the jail chooses to display. Internal fields may go beyond it. So read the pieces together: intake time, city, arresting department, charge, bond, and release date. One more caution deserves mention. A shared name can point at the wrong person, so verify identity before drawing conclusions.
| Field | What the public record shows |
|---|---|
| Full name | Usually displayed in last-name, first-name, and middle-name order. Confirm with more than a name. |
| Booking number | No stable booking number was visibly labeled on the examined public cards. Request it if needed. |
| Age and race/sex | Descriptive database fields tied to the intake record, not findings about identity or guilt. |
| Intake date and time | The jail's booking event. It is not always the arrest time or the court filing time. |
| City | A roster field that may help sort a local entry. It is not automatically a residence or arrest location. |
| Arresting department | The agency tied to the booking card. The arresting agency and jail operator can be different. |
| Arresting officer | A public card field that may be blank or abbreviated. |
| Release date | A displayed label that may be blank. A blank value needs jail confirmation. |
| Class | A class label appears, but the observed display was not consistent enough to classify a case. |
| Charge | The charge entered at booking. It is not a final court disposition. |
| Bond | A bond entry attached to a charge. Bond and guilt are separate questions. |
| Booking photograph | An inline image appears on the official current-custody card when the page publishes one. |
| Court date and disposition | Not consistent roster fields. Use the Circuit Clerk and Judici for the case record. |
Four terms carry most of the weight. Booking is simply jail intake. Arraignment is the court appearance that moves the charge and release question before a judge. Bond is a court-set condition for getting out of custody. Disposition comes later, meaning the final result, whether dismissal, plea, acquittal, supervision, or sentence. Expungement is separate from all of these. Under state rules, it strips eligible records from public view entirely, which is not the same thing as release from jail.
- Current custody
- The person appears on the live county roster or a confirmed transfer roster.
- Released
- The jail record shows a release or the jail confirms the person is no longer held. It does not say the case ended.
- Disposition
- The court's result, which may differ from the original booking charge.
- Detainer
- A request from another authority that can affect release or transfer. It is not a booking charge.
Request a Lawrence County Booking Photo
Older bookings need a paper trail, not a live roster. That is where the county's FOIA request page comes in. County Clerk Will C. Gibson serves as the county's FOIA officer. The page lists his address, email, and phone. The sheriff or jail likely holds the booking card, so name that office in your request. The clerk can then route it or point you to the right records holder.
Keep the request narrow. Give a full name, a bounded date range for the intake, the arresting agency if you know it, and the specific fields you need. Ask for an electronic copy where possible. Illinois arrest-report law covers identifying details and a photo when one exists. Exemptions still apply, though. Active proceedings, safety concerns, facility security, juveniles, and other protected material can all be withheld.
- Write to the County Clerk FOIA channel and identify the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department or jail as the likely custodian.
- State the person's name, the date range, and the booking or arrest event. Ask for the intake time, agency, charges, bond, release or transfer time, and photo if available and releasable.
- Request electronic delivery and ask the office to identify any other custodian if it does not hold the record.
- Keep the request, acknowledgement, fee notice, response, redactions, and any appeal correspondence.
- If a part is withheld, ask for the statutory basis and the non-exempt remainder rather than assuming the event did not occur.
| Request point | Lawrence County and Illinois detail |
|---|---|
| FOIA officer | Will C. Gibson, County Clerk, 1100 State Street, Lawrenceville, IL 62439, 618-943-2346 ext. 4. |
| Written response | 5 ILCS 140/3 generally allows five business days to respond, with a possible noticed extension. |
| Arrest information | 5 ILCS 140/2.15 describes information due as soon as practical and no later than 72 hours after arrest, subject to limits. |
| Copy fees | The state guide describes the first 50 black-and-white pages as free, then generally 15 cents per page. Special formats can differ. |
| Photo fee | No Lawrence-specific booking-photo price list was located. Confirm any charge with the custodian. |

Will C. Gibson is the listed FOIA officer. For current custody questions, the sheriff/jail number is 618-943-1693.
Need to know if someone is in jail today? Call rather than wait on paper. A quick call to the jail can confirm whether a person is listed or has been transferred. It will not produce a historic booking card, though. Written requests still handle that.
A screenshot of the official FOIA channel shows the county's request route and contact block. Treat it as context, not as a copy of any record.
The clerk's published contact makes the path clear. Even so, the agency that created a booking record keeps control of that record and any lawful redaction applied to it.
Illinois Mugshot and Arrest-Record Law
Illinois 5 ILCS 140/2.15 governs arrest-report information kept by criminal-justice agencies. The statute lists what must be shared. Name, age, and address come first. A photograph goes out when one exists, along with charges, time and location, arresting agency, and custody receipt, discharge, or transfer details. Release is due as soon as practical, with a 72-hour outer limit and exemptions preserved. Keep the limits in mind, too. The law does not force a photo to be created. It does not guarantee a permanent web post, and it does not bless any private index as official.
Subsection 2.15(e) restricts how law enforcement posts booking photos on social-networking sites for certain lower-level offenses. Exceptions exist. Missing persons, fugitives, persons of interest, and more serious crimes all qualify. The county's public roster is a separate channel from all of this. Juvenile confidentiality still applies everywhere. Never seek out or republish a minor's booking photo.
A correction path exists as well. Illinois 815 ILCS 505/2QQQ reaches certain for-profit publishers that charge for fixing or removing criminal-record information. The lawful route is to save the URL and proof, then correct the record at the originating agency or court. After that, follow the publisher's current written process. RecentlyBooked's free review policy covers wrong-person, dismissed, sealed, expunged, juvenile, duplicate, inaccurate, and outdated entries. Busted Newspaper's documentation form cites a 5 to 10 day review window. Both are private policies, not county promises.
Court orders are the last step. Use the Illinois Courts expungement and sealing forms together with the eligibility rules in 20 ILCS 2630/5.2. Mistaken identity falls under a different statute, 50 ILCS 205/4. Once the source page is corrected or taken down, Google's outdated-content guidance can refresh a stale search result. That refresh erases nothing from a live source, though, and it proves no expungement happened or not.
How to Find Lawrence County Busted Mugshots
Start with the custody question. Someone booked last night? Check the county roster first. A person already released may vanish from the current list, though the booking record still exists. Sentenced defendants move into the IDOC system, and federal or immigration detainees sit in entirely separate locators. Match your search to whichever agency owns that stage of the record.
- Open the official Lawrence County current-inmates page and read its heading, update signal, full name, intake time, city, arresting department, charge, bond, and release field.
- If the roster appears stale or the person may be held elsewhere, call the jail and check the Richland County Sheriff's inmate search because the July 2026 staffing move sent Lawrence inmates there temporarily.
- For a court date or result, use the Circuit Clerk's criminal-record route and its linked Judici case search. A booking charge is not the final result.
- If a state sentence is likely, search IDOC by last name, IDOC number, or birthdate. Do not use the state prison search as a county booking feed.
- If no public page answers the date or photo question, send a defined FOIA request for the record and photograph when available.
- Use local news and unofficial indexes only as leads, then return to the original jail, court, or agency for confirmation.
That order matters. It keeps a live custody card, a stale news story, an open warrant, a court outcome, and a state-prison profile from blurring into one another, which is the most common mix-up people make with arrest lookups.
Where Lawrence County Busted Mugshots Appear
Go to official sources first. The county roster offers the clearest public photo path, but each source covers different ground. Local news may name an arrest without any photo. IDOC only tracks the sentenced state population. The private indexes listed below can run stale, hold gaps, or lean on a republisher's own data fields rather than county records.
| Channel | Photo? | Official? | Access and custody scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lawrence County current inmates | Yes, inline photos were observed | Yes | Current county custody; no public historical filter. |
| Sheriff app | Not promised | Yes | Public-safety news, tips, and reports; check live features. |
| Jail or county FOIA | When available and releasable | Yes | Historical booking record or photo request; exemptions apply. |
| Circuit Clerk and Judici | Not a booking-photo source | Yes | Case dates and disposition after booking. |
| IDOC search | May vary by current profile | Yes | State-prison or parole slice, not county pretrial custody. |
| Daily Record and WAKO/GIANT | Selective, not guaranteed | No, local news | Irregular arrest, police, and court snapshots. |
| RecentlyBooked Lawrence | Often shown by the republisher | No | Claimed 30-day county index with multiple refreshes; verify. |
| Busted Newspaper sample | Shown on an individual page | No | No stable Lawrence County landing page was verified. |
| Mugshots.com Lawrence path | Republished entries may show one | No | Observed index count is not current jail population. |
Arrests.org works as a statewide interface, but no stable Lawrence County page on its main domain could be confirmed. Mugshots.zone returns a Lawrence County result for Missouri, not Illinois. Treat neither as a Lawrence County, Illinois source. A third-party page can look local and still point at the wrong state or rely on a private booking identifier.
Busted and Booked: Lawrence County Roster
The official Lawrence County current-inmates page carries the heading "Inmates Currently in Custody." It reads as a full list rather than a true search form. Expect a set of inmate cards with an update signal and an inline JPG photo in each one. The sheriff posts no guaranteed hourly, daily, or weekly refresh schedule. Nothing on the page states how long old entries stay up.
Use your browser's find function as a shortcut, not a county filter. Read the whole card. An intake date can fall well outside a same-day window. A blank release field does not pin down where someone physically is during a transfer or a data lag.
| What to check | What it answers |
|---|---|
| Name | Which card may match, subject to age, city, and agency confirmation. |
| Intake date/time | When the jail recorded booking or intake. |
| City and arresting department | Local context and agency attribution, not automatic residence or arrest location. |
| Charges and bond | Booking charges and a release condition, not disposition. |
| Release field | A published date when present; blank or stale values need confirmation. |
| Photo | The official page's inline booking-style image, which should not be copied into a gallery. |
- Open the live page and note the heading and last-update context.
- Find the surname, then compare the full name, age, city, and arresting department.
- Read intake, charges, bond, and release fields as one custody snapshot.
- Call 618-943-1693 when the question is where a person is held now, especially during a transfer.
- Use the court and FOIA routes for disposition or historical records.
A contextual capture of the roster shows the field layout beside the official source. It is not a gallery of faces.
Open the official current-inmates page
The roster earns its keep by pairing intake fields and photo in one place. Keep in mind it is a live custody page, not an archive of arrest history.
When Does a Lawrence County Booking Appear?
No official rule promises that a fresh Lawrence County booking shows up online within any set minutes or hours. The intake time on a card is not a live 24-hour feed. A person can be booked, released, transferred, or left off the public page before anyone looks.
Worried about today? Call the jail and ask three things: whether the person is in custody, whether the booking has been entered, and whether a photo is public. For a specific past date, send a written request. The statutory 72-hour arrest-information rule covers access to listed arrest information, not a permanent online archive or a guaranteed posting time.
What the Lawrence County Roster Omits
The public cards leave plenty out. There is no stable booking number, no complete court disposition, no release reason, and no historical date filter. No stated photo-retention period either. A "Class" label does appear, but its values were too inconsistent to read as a felony or misdemeanor class. Secondary websites sometimes add their own booking IDs or physical-description fields, and those labels are not official county fields.
The roster also cannot settle identity. It cannot fix a person's exact location during a transfer, and it will not show later charge changes. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, victim, and investigative material may be withheld. A missing card simply means the page did not show it at that moment. It does not prove that no arrest or court record exists.
Busted Last Night? Lawrence County Booking Feeds
No separate official Lawrence County page covers today, the last 24 hours, the last 48 hours, or a weekly jail archive. The sheriff's roster has an update indicator but no published window. So treat it as official current custody, not "all recent arrests." The sheriff's news page offered no booking calendar or full intake log either.
Local media helps fill the gap. WAKO/GIANT runs grouped arrest stories covering a weekend or several days, while the Daily Record crime page posts police and State's Attorney reports weekly or on an irregular basis. These pieces may name an agency, charge, age, release condition, or custody status. Still, they are selective windows and rarely include a booking photo. RecentlyBooked claims a 30-day county display refreshed several times daily, though its count shifted between visits, so treat it as an unofficial lead.
Just booked? The roster plus a phone call to the jail works best. For a past booking that dropped off the page, file a bounded FOIA request. A news article can help you pin down a date or agency. The original record still belongs to the county or the court.
Why No Same-Day Feed Was Found
A same-day booking list is not part of what Lawrence County publishes. What the public gets is a current-inmate roster, inmate information, a warrant list, and a news feed. None of those gives you a clean answer to who was locked up last night. That gap reflects the sources, not the jail's inner workings. The roster page refreshes on its own schedule, and nobody outside the sheriff's office knows how often entries get checked or how long a released person stays listed.
So build the answer in layers. Start with the live roster. Call the jail if you have a name. Look for local news stories that name their sources. Then ask for the official record if you need a full date range. A weekend arrest story is never a complete list. And a missing name proves nothing at all.
Note: A news publication time is not a booking time, and a roster update signal is not a promise that every intake was posted in that window.
Busted? IDOC Is a Different System
The Illinois Department of Corrections Individual in Custody Search covers a different stage. It is for people who reached state custody or supervision, not every person arrested in Lawrence County and not every person awaiting a county court date. The legacy search supports last name, IDOC number, and birthdate. Use the agency's current instructions rather than guessing an identifier.
Lawrence Correctional Center is in Sumner and is a maximum-security adult-male state facility. Its capacity and population snapshot describe prison operations, not county arrest volume. IDOC says current individual photos may be available through the search page, while former-person photos are confidential under state law. An examined profile did not render a portrait in its public HTML, so photo availability should be described as variable.
For an IDOC record or image that the search does not show, use the department's FOIA route. The published contact is 1301 Concordia Court, PO Box 19277, Springfield, IL 62794-9277, 217-558-2200 ext. 4166, with a five-working-day response period and a possible noticed extension. IDOC's media-request guidance explains the current and former-photo distinction.
At the state-custody stage, search IDOC, label the result as state custody, and keep the county booking and court records separate. A person can move from a Lawrence County booking to IDOC, but the two databases answer different questions.
The state search screenshot is an interface reference, not an offender-photo gallery.
Open the official IDOC search
IDOC answers the state-prison question. For county bookings and the current jail, the Lawrence County roster is still the right source. Two systems, two answers.
Busted, Released, or State Custody?
"In custody" is not one national database. A Lawrence County booking card, a release entry, an IDOC profile, and a federal locator can each describe a different point in time. Whoever holds the record changes as a case moves along. So match your label to what the source actually supports.
| Status | Best source | What it can show |
|---|---|---|
| Just booked | County jail roster or jail call | Intake, agency, charge, bond, and photo when the public card shows them. |
| Currently in Lawrence custody | Lawrence roster, with transfer check | Current public custody card, subject to lag and physical-location caveat. |
| Released | Jail confirmation, release field, court | A release or transfer record. It does not establish a dismissal or acquittal. |
| State-prison custody | IDOC search | State institution, status, and possible current photo, not a fresh county booking. |
| Federal custody | BOP locator or federal agency | Federal status; the public locator does not supply a county-style mugshot gallery. |
| Immigration custody | ICE locator | ICE location/status search, not a Lawrence County booking-photo source. |
Federal and immigration cases call for different tools. The Bureau of Prisons locator and the ICE detainee locator fit only when a case is truly federal or immigration-related. Photos are another matter. The U.S. Marshals Service photo policy keeps prisoner histories and photographs away from the public entirely.
After a Lawrence County Booking
The Circuit Clerk's criminal case record picks up where the jail card stops. The official Circuit Clerk page lists criminal felony, misdemeanor, traffic, juvenile, and other records, and it links to the county's Judici search. Visit at 1100 State Street in Lawrenceville. Call 618-943-2815. Hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Court copies can carry a small fee, so confirm the current amount before you go.
- Use the roster's name, age, city, intake time, and arresting agency to reduce the risk of a same-name match.
- Search the Lawrence court case by name or case number through the Clerk's official Judici link.
- Read the docket for the first appearance, bond action, charging document, plea, dismissal, supervision, acquittal, sentence, or other order.
- If the online docket is incomplete, ask the Circuit Clerk for the official copy route and any fee.
- Use a signed expungement or sealing order, not a cached image or third-party claim, when describing a record as legally restricted.
A booking card only shows what the sheriff logged at intake. The court file tells the rest of the story as the case moves forward.
When Lawrence County Jail Moves
Staffing trouble shook things up in July 2026. WTHI reported on July 3 that the sheriff moved every Lawrence County jail inmate to the Richland County Jail. The transfer was believed to be temporary. The physical holding spot changed, but the administrative Lawrence roster can still serve as the county source. That is exactly why a street address alone can mislead you.
For a date touched by the transfer, call the Lawrence County jail first. Then check the Richland County Sheriff's inmate search. One caveat: the Richland interface runs on JavaScript, and there is no guarantee every result comes with a photo. Confirm the physical location and visit rules directly with whichever jail holds the person.
What the Lawrence County Sheriff App Does
The county's official page promotes the Lawrence County Sheriff's Dept app. Its Apple listing and Google Play listing promise crime reports, tip submission, public-safety information, and department news. Neither store description mentions a live inmate roster, a booking-photo archive, or an alert for every new booking. Those features simply are not on the menu.
Features can change, so read each notification with care. Treat an alert as a public-safety message and nothing more. Open the original notice. Then verify custody with the jail, case status with the Circuit Clerk, or a warrant through the official warrant table. The sheriff's social feed posts arrests too, but it follows no documented booking schedule.
Lawrence County Warrants Are Different
A warrant works differently than a booking. It's court process, plain and simple. The sheriff's Current Warrants table lists 549 rows you can search by name, and each entry carries an age, city, race and sex, case number, and charge. What you won't find there is booking photos, a reward, or any promise that an anonymous tip stays anonymous. Rows can sit untouched for a while. Someone with an active warrant may not show up on the current-inmate roster at all, so the two lists don't cancel each other out.
Checking your own name? Call the Lawrence County Circuit Clerk at 618-943-2815 and ask about the case number, the amount, and what to do next. A lawyer can help you sort the lawful path. Never approach, follow, or confront anyone on the list. The full rundown of the county's wanted table sits on Most Wanted.
Busted Mugshots by Lawrence County City
City police often make the arrest. The county jail then does the booking. That booking is what creates the public custody card. So the city listed on a roster entry is only a hint. It tells you which agency handled the arrest, not where the stop took place or where the person lives. The three city pages below put both pieces in one place: local police contacts plus the county-wide booking path.
- Lawrenceville Busted Mugshots: the county seat, 4,164 in the 2020 Census. Lawrenceville Police lists 700 State Street and 618-943-6411 for non-emergency and records questions. County roster and court routes cover the booking.
- Sumner Busted Mugshots: 2,631 in the 2020 Census. Sumner Police has no reviewed public arrest-log page, and Lawrence Correctional Center is a separate IDOC state-prison system in the city.
- Bridgeport Busted Mugshots: 1,800 in the 2020 Census. Bridgeport Police cases can share the county jail path, and ISP assistance may appear in the agency record.
Local reporting tells a different story than official records do. The county's Crime News & Mugshots page keeps news coverage separate from custody and court records. That gap matters most when an article is older than the live roster, or when the story covers a neighboring county entirely.
